Imphal, May 18 (DIPR):Works Minister Th Biswajit today instructed Deputy Commissioners of the nine districts to finish verification and identification of occupants of Government quarters within seven days.
He was speaking at a meeting held at the conference hall of Old Secretariat. The meeting was held with an aim to take stock of the details of Government quarters, occupancy, collection of rents etc.
He instructed all DCs to identify all residential general pool quarters and evict all unauthorized occupants. The meeting also discussed about proper allotment of Government quarters to State Government employees and revision of rents of Government quarters.
Renovation and repairing works of the quarters will be taken up by the Public Work Department and at the same time construction of multi-storeyed residential quarters in the district headquarters will be taken up by PWD.
And land required for construction of quarters should be provided by Deputy Commissioners concerned.
He said mass inspection will be undertaken to check unauthorized occupation of Government quarters both in the hills and the valley. Notice will be given to those unauthorized occupants. If they fail to vacate despite the notice, disciplinary action will be taken up against those occupants.
He also instructed all DCs to monitor ongoing developmental works in their jurisdictions and asked them to visit work sites. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Works K Radhakumar, PWD Chief Engineer Ch Tiken, DCs and representatives from nine districts excluding Imphal East and Imphal West. Deputy Commissioner of Kangpokpi district reported that there is need to identify and cross-check occupants of Government quarters.
Representatives from Churachandpur districts reported that they had finished identification of occupants and repairing works are needed in most of the quarters.
Representatives from Bishnupur district reported that they had conducted extensive survey and found out that even after retirement many are still occupying Government quarters without paying rental fees in terms of lakhs. They also reported that they had asked Treasury Department to deduct the rental fees from their pension or salary.
Representative from Tamenglong district reported that most of the Government quarters are illegally occupied. Representatives of Senapati district reported that there are 173 Government quarters and most of them are in bad condition.
