Pharmaceutical quality generic medicines will be available at affordable prices within everyone’s reach with a discount of 50 percent and more, said Chief Minister N Biren during the launching ceremony of Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojna at JNIMS auditorium hall today.
Addressing the launch function Biren said, with different people oriented schemes taken up under the leadership of Narendra Modi, Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojna is one of the most important schemes. With this scheme anyone can buy quality generic medicine at low affordable price for poverty class people, he added.
The quality generic medicines will be available on all Janaushadhi stores. 26 stores will be opened shortly at different parts of the state, he said.
These generic medicines are meant for removing the grievances face by the poor. If these medicines are found selling at other pharmacies then severe actions will take against the pharmacy, the CM continued.
Speaking on the occasion, Mansukh L Mandaviya, minister of state, chemicals and fertilizers, government of India said on the Janaushadhi stores priority of availability of medicines will be life saving drugs especially for the diabetic, blood pressure, cancer and others.
People need not worry about the quality of generic medicines available under PMBJP, the Union Minister clarified that these medicines had been tested at multiple levels and certified by World Health Organisation.
Operation equipments will also available in the store at low affordable rates under this scheme.
He also urged the doctors to prescribe generic medicines instead of costly branded medicines in order to help the poor people.
Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India (BPPI), which is the nodal implementing agency of PMBJP, also provides one-time financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh to those who wish to open a PMBJK, he said.
During his speech, he also mentioned about Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to pay more attention to less developed parts of the country.
Speaking at the occasion, Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar urged the public not to spread wrong propaganda against generic medicines. He said quality has not been compromised in manufacturing generic medicines, which are to be distributed under PMBJP.
He expressed confidence that the medical fraternity of the State would join hand with the government in making PMBJP a success.
The dignitaries present at the function also distributed licences for opening 26 PMBJKs at different parts of the State.
Later, the Chief Minister opened the first PMBJK of the State at the block adjacent to JNIMS OPD.
It may be mentioned that the government provides more than 600 medicines and 154 medical devices at an affordable price through PMBJKs.
