CM leads in extending aid to Class XII topper

IMPHAL, May 25: Chief Minister N Biren handed over Rs 50,000 as financial assistance and as motivation to Thounaojam Loyangamba, the 4th position holder in Commerce stream of the Higher Secondary Examination, 2017, conducted by COHSEM.

Speaking to media persons at a simple felicitation ceremony organised at the CM Secretariat today, N Biren praised Loyangamba, who despite being from a poor family and being a labourer himself, beat all odds to secure the 4th position in the Commerce stream of the HSE examinations 2017, from a Government School.

The Chief Minister further announced that the State Government would reward hard working students of Government Schools who manage to secure top positions in the examinations in order to encourage and motivate them.

He expressed that other students and the people should try and learn from Loyangamba, who appeared the exam and secured the 4th position despite having to work as a labourer for his livelihood.

He assured that he has already notified Imphal East DC to arrange necessary paperworks to provide Rs 1.20 lakh under the Housing For All scheme for Loyangamba. Moreover, N Biren also promised to arrange a bank loan of not less than Rs 2 lakh for Loyangamba so that he may give up his labour works and earn his livelihood from home and focus on his studies. The Chief Minister stated that he would make necessary arrangement to provide some amount of funds every month all throughout the student’s academic years.

He also assured free treatment for Loyangamba’s father, Thounaojam Banamali, at JNIMS.
The Sangai Express brought Thounaojam Loyangamba and his mother, Thounaojam (o) Ichal, to the Chief Minister Secretariat after the Chief Minister expressed his desire to meet the 4th position holder and extend necessary financial assistance. When The Sangai Express informed the Chief Minister about the condition of the student’s family, he immediately took up necessary steps to provide the housing aid and loans and also handed over Rs 50,000 to Loyangamba for his admission fees and to procure books and stationery items.

The Sangai Express Manipuri editor Khogendro Khomdram and English editor Hijam Rajesh were also present at the simple event.

On the other hand, IPS, DIG of CID RK Memi also provided financial assistance of Rs 30,000 to Loyangamba.

N Rajendro Singh, ex president of ICHAM, also provided financial assistance to the student for his admission fees and assured to provide Rs 3000 every month during his study years. He also assured to provide a 50 feet chicken pen, 500 chickens for Loyangamba to rear and earn his livelihood and also assured to bear the whole expense for procurement of chicken feeds for the first batch.
