The felicitation ceremony for the first batch of the Career Readiness FastFORWARD initiative at National Institute of Technology, Manipur was held at NIT Manipur, Langol campus on the 26th of April 2017. A soft skills training intervention designed by Shillong based AVENUES in
collaboration with NIT, the FastFORWARD program began in January 2016 as a multi-year
handholding and training initiative, with participation from students of the departments of the
institution.
104 students currently in their Final Year (8th Semester) were awarded certificates in this
ceremony graced by the Director of the institute, Dr. S. Birendra Singh as the Chief Guest and
Mr. Mark Laitflang Stone, Managing Director of Group Avenues, Shillong in the presence of
other officials and heads of departments.
While addressing the audience and graduates, the Director mentioned that there has been a
significant increase in placements in the current year and credited the growth in placements to the increased integration of soft skills with technical education and the ability of students to perform at campus interviews, a core focus area of the FastFORWARD Initiative. With
companies like Infosys, Wipro and Genpact making regular and successful onsite interviews, the Director hoped that in the years ahead, placements would grow at 15-20% every year. Dr. Singh described the campus career readiness and soft skills program as one “that will not only help [students] in getting better placements but help them in life in general.”
