Pregnant woman, mother murdered

IMPHAL, May 30: In a gruesome incident, an eight month pregnant woman and her mother were found dead with their throat slit in their respective bedrooms at Uripok Bachaspati Maning Leikai under Imphal Police station today at around 4.30 pm.

The deceased pregnant woman has been identified as Soram Monika (30) while her mother has been identified as Lakhipyari (61).

Monika was working as a Technician at Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS)
According to Lakhipyari’s husband Tomba who works at Medical Directorate, he returned home after his work and called his wife and daughter to open their residential gate but none of them responded.

Out of suspicion, he climbed up the wall and went inside their rooms. Shockingly, he found both of them lying in a pool of blood in their bedrooms. Immediately he called up his son-in-law identified as Irengbam Anil of Oinam Inrengban, who works at a private clinic.

As per the locals, they saw Monika taking her child for tuition in the locality at around 3 pm.
On hearing the information, a team of Imphal West district police led by SP Temthing Ngasangva came and cordoned the area. MLA of Uripok AC Y Joykumar who is also the Deputy Chief Minister also arrived and enquired about the incident. Shortly, a team of forensic experts arrived and conducted inquest of the crime spots. When the residential complex and its surrounding areas were searched, blood stains were found in an under construction house on the northern side of the house.

A knife which is believed to have been used in committing the crime was recovered from the wall adjoining the residential gate. Police suspected that the two were murdered by unknown person/s who entered the house with the intention of robbery as an almirah and a cupboard inside the house were found broken. The residential complex has been sealed for conducting further inquest tomorrow.

As part of the investigation of the case, seven drug users staying in the locality were pulled up by commando personnel and handed over to the police station concerned.
