3 cops suspended for theft

IMPHAL, Jun 9 : Three security personnel have been placed under suspension for stealing bullets from the DGP Pool Arms Kote at 1st Manipur Rifles.

Speaking to media persons, DGP LM Khaute claimed that a combined team of Bishnupur district police and 25 Assam Rifles conducted frisking and checking at Kangvai area on May 30 during which three persons coming on a car with 2780 bullets of AK rifle were arrested.

They have been identified as Khaiginlal Haokip (34) s/o Jamkai Haokip of Gamphajang in Churuachandpur district, who claimed to be a cadre of KLA, Jangkhohao Khongsai (40) s/o Thenkhothang Khongsai of Tingkangphai, Churachandpur district and Simon Gurung (31) s/o (L) Lal Bahadur Gurung of Mantripukhri AT Line, Imphal East district, who is a personnel of 4th IRB.

The police officer said that they are in police custody till today and a case has been registered at Moirang police station for investigation.

From their disclosure, two persons namely Fimrothang Hmar s/o Lalroping Hmar of Sidam village in Churachandpur presently serving as Rifleman of 1st IRB and Asem Boiton Singh of Singjamei Oinam Thingel presently serving as Rifleman of 1st MR were arrested yesterday.
Boiton revealed that he had stolen 1088 bullets from the DGP Pool Arms Kote where he was posted and the same was supplied to the three persons.

He has been remanded to police custody till June 16. The DGP added that departmental inquiry will be carried out against the three security personnel.
