CCpur, Jun 1: Two siblings, aged three and four drowned in a rivulet today after they were reportedly swept away by the current one after another while they were strolling around a stream that was in spate following the downpour.
Four-year-old Lianlunmang and his three year-old-sister Kimngaihsiam were seen strolling near the rivulet before they were carried away by the current. People who saw the duo being swept away by the current managed to get hold of the boy but he failed to recover.
The body of the baby girl, who some sources said, was the first to fall inside the river, is yet be located despite an intense search being launched by those who were present alongside the river. A huge number of people soon joined the hunt but there are no reports of the body being located at the time of filing this report.
The two siblings are the only children of K Lalthianlian of Muallnuam village in Thanlon sub-division. They are presently staying in a rented house along with their expectant mother at Lanva village, barely a hundred meters away from the rivulet that claimed their lives.
BRTF starts repairing NH-202 : Despite the incessant rain and unstable weather, the 84 RCC BRTF Ukhrul has begun clearing the road between Shirui and Lunghar village on NH 202 from yesterday, reports our Ukhrul correspondent.
The deposited mudslides caused by cyclone Mora were removed by heavy machi-neries installed by the BRTF.
Speaking to media persons, the BRTF supervising officer stated that light vehicles will be able to pass through the Shinguira area of Shirui village and added that passage of heavy vehicles have been restricted for at least three to four days.
In the meantime, Councillor from Chingjaroi R Lawrence Tuizar visited the site and was impressed to see the work progress.
Lawrence stated that he will approach the authority concerned to make the highway an all weather road. NH-202 is the only line which connects the northern villages of Ukhrul with the rest of the State.
