Suspect in Uripok twin murder case held

In a significant breakthrough in Uripok twin murder case, police arrested a suspect from Uripok Khumanthem Leikai yesterday.

The suspect is identified as Khongbantabam Hitler Singh, 30, son of Kh Imocha Singh, allegedly ex-boyfriend of late Monica.

Monica who was expecting was found murdered on the evening of May 30 at their Uripok Bachaspati Maning Leikai residence along with her mother Soram (O) Lakhipyari.
The accused was arrested in connection with the case following circumstantial evidence collected from the crime scene pointing to his possible involvement.

The accused was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West, L Tonsing, who remanded the accused to police custody for 11 days.

During the appearance before the Judge, the police submitted that a complaint was lodged by Soram Tomba Singh, father of the victim that the accused was seen fleeing from the area on his vehicle on the night of the tragic day.

While further identifying the accused, the complainant alleged that several threats were received from the accused to the family. It is learnt that late Monica who once had affairs with the accused married to another person.

Following the complaint, forensic expert team reportedly examined the vehicle of the accused which was found parked at Lalambung RIMS road and found blood stains on the door knob of Hitler Singh’s car.

Police further revealed that although the accused during preliminary interrogation admitted to have had affairs with Monica but denied his involvement in the crime.
Taking into consideration of the circumstantial evidences, police pleaded the court to grant custodial remand of the accused for 11 days.

Women folks of Uripok staged a sit-in protest demanding capital punishment to the culprit involved in killing Soram (O) Lakhipriyari and her pregnant daughter Irengbam (O) Monica Devi.

The sit-in protest was staged at Uripok Khumanthem Kandebo Leirak Machin and was organised by the People Action Committee against the brutally killing of Soram (O) Lakhipriyari and Irengbam (O) Monica Devi.

Speaking to media persons Uripok Sorbonthingel Meira Paibi Lup president Ebeman Mutum said that they strongly condemn such unwanted action and such action created panic among the general public.

The government should bring out the real murder at the earliest and punish the culprit with death penalty, she added.

Ebeman continued that they will not take the dead bodies until the government fulfils their demands. The sister of the deceased Soram Lidia speaking emotionally asked the people of the state to support them in finding the killer.
