IMPHAL, May 31: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel today inspected Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS).
She was accorded a warm welcome by Director of the medical institute RK Dinesh who reminded the Union Minister that the Ministry concerned approved only Rs 175.17 crore against the proposed Rs 430 crore for the current financial year.
He expressed apprehension that the institute would find it hard to run the institute smoothly by the approved amount.
Giving a power point presentation before the Union Minister, RK Dinesh said that the institute was establsihed in 1972 with 300 beds but now it has 1400 beds. He said that the medical institute which was placed under Health and Family Welfare Ministry from April 1, 2009 has produced 3216 doctors so far.
He informed the Union Minister that around 3, 48, 000 and 1, 20, 000 patients have been treated in the OPD and casualty wards of the institute so far.
He also informed the Union Minister that RIMS has 1700 staff against the required 1900.
Highlighting the lack of infrastructure in various Departments of the institute, he drew the attention of the Union Minister on the need for upgrading medical equipments of the institute.
The Union Minister assured that the Ministry will extend all possible help to the institute.
She inaugurated digital payment system for the Casualty Department and inspected PMR, radiotherapy, Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department, ICU and ICCU wards of the institute.
