Imphal, Jan 8: A one day Sensitization program on Gender and Criminal Justice System Reform was held at Kongpal Iranpham Community Hall, Imphal East on 7th January 2018. The Program was jointly organised by Oriental Youth Organisation Kongpal, Women Action for Development and United NGO’s Mission Manipur Imphal East ,where more than 150 participants were attended.
Laimayum Sevananda Advocate Guwahati High Court one of the resource person said that the cases of crime against women and Children is increasing day by day but Justice delivery System to the victim is low. For speedy justice of the victims the role of police is very important in our society he added. Sevananda further said that the general people (Public) should know the role of police and support the police during investigation for speedy justice of the victim. Radhapiyari Convenor, Women Committee United NGO’s Mission, Manipur Imphal west also delivered speech on Protection of Women from Domestic violence act. She expressed that early marriage is one of the root cause of domestic Violence in the State as per her experience she added.
Sobita Mangsatabam Secretary Women Action for Development & Convenor Women Committee United NGO’s Mission Manipur lamented that everyone has experience the cases of crime against women and Children through local newspaper and radio in every nook and corner of the state. The case of rape, rape and murder is becoming one of the burning issues in the state. She further said that 57 women lost their precious lives in the year 2017. It is need of the hour to take ownership of the issue by the local bodies specially the Youth club, Panchayat ,Meira paibi etc to prevent crime against women and children in the state.
