Imphal, Jan 2: Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam said that research should be done to address the expectations and concerns in order to find solution to the problems and challenges faced by the society. Calling upon the intellects, he said that, if we put all our minds together then various problems of the society could be lessened.
This was stated by him at the felicitation function organised by the Manipur Association for the Promotion of Science, MAPS and Research Institute of Science And Technology, RIST, Imphal held at the Court Hall, Manipur University, Canchipur, yesterday.
On the occasion, the Education Minister felicitated Prof. Ng. Brajachand Singh who was awarded with Veteran Scientist of Manipur – 2018 in due recognition of his contribution in the field of HIV detection, surveillance and monitoring the disease. He also felicitated Manipuri – American, Prof. A. Surjalal Sharma, Director of Research Institute of Science and Technology RIST for his selection to the prestigious Fellow of the American Society (APS), USA.
Further speaking, he said research is very important and should be encouraged especially on applied science instead of doing it just to obtain for a degree. He said research in North East is yet to catch up with the rest of the country and whatever could be done to improve will be extended from the Government’s side.
He announced that the Government is planning to approach to set up an ICAR Centre and an ASEAN University in the state.
The function was attended by Vice Chancellor, Manipur University Prof. Adya Prasad Pandey, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Iroishemba Prof. Moirangthem Premjit Singh, President MAPS and Dean of Mathematical and physical sciences MU, Prof. N. Rajmuhon Singh, professors, research scholars and non – teaching staff of the University.
