Nagaland Lokayukta (Anti-Corruption ombudsman organization) Bill 2015 unlikely to be passed so soon

KOHIMA, May 27 (NEPS): As expected, the Select Committee on the “Nagaland Lokayukta Bill, 2015” has sought to extend their tenure for the third time for another six months. Moving for extension in the the One-day 16th (Special) Session of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Saturday, Chairman of the Committee Er Levi Rengma, Parliamentary Secretary said, “That the Tenure of the Select Committee on the Nagaland Lokayukta Bill, 2015 be extended” with instructions to present its Report within six (6) months.

The Committee’s seeking for the extension of its tenure for another six months today is the third time they moved. It may be mentioned that the Committee’s seeking to extend its tenure for six months for the second time was on the first day of the 14th Session of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on November 22, 2016. In the July Session of 2016, they moved for the extension of its tenure for the first time, and 6 months were granted for the Committee to present its report.

The Lokayukta is an anti-corruption authority constituted at the state level. It investigates allegations of corruption and mal-administration against public servants and is tasked with speedy redressal of public grievances.

The Lokayukta is an anti-corruption ombudsman organization in the Indian states. It is unlikely to see the Bill passed so soon.
