Biswajit chairs RD and PR monthly review

Imphal, Jun 6 (DIPR) : Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh today asked officials of RD and PR Department to conduct mass publicity or awareness campaigns on National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and asked MGNREGS officials to utilize genuine beneficiaries instead of hiring actors for the campaign.

The Minister made the suggestions during the first monthly review meeting of the Department convened at New Secretariat conference hall today.

The meeting was also attended by Sumant Singh, Secretary, RD and PR, Deputy Commissioners of all the districts, Director and officials of the Department.

During a discussion, Biswajit said that the officials concerned should educate the masses on NRLM scheme from the grass-root level.

Highlighting the grievances faced during implementation of the scheme in the State, Sumant Singh said any delay in release of fund affects proper implementation of the scheme.
He continued that the scheme is a mobilisation programme for which the officials need to make field visits and identify the intended beneficiaries.

Replying to the officials who highlighted the issue of lack of man-power, Biswajit assured to strengthen man-power and at the same time suggested that the officials concerned coordinate and properly inform the DCs of the work taken up in their respective district under NRLM scheme.

Biswajit also asserted that the beneficiaries for Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) should be selected or identified through rigorous process.

RD and PR Director said with the upcoming local body election in the State, the Department lacks man-power for the smooth conduct of the election.

Meanwhile, the officials also informed that under the 100-day programme of the Department, construction of Zilla Parishad building, Porompat will be completed by June 24.
Regarding the issue of non-payment of salaries for the DRDA staff, Biswajit asked the DCs to submit their grievances to Sumant Singh so that the issues can be redressed on a priority basis.

He also instructed the officials to submit the progress report during the next meeting.
