Imphal, Jun 19 (DIPR): The Government would provide skill development programmes to the surrendered militants that would enable them to find sustainable means of livelihood.
This was stated by Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the homecoming ceremony of a cadre of KCP Lamphel held today at the CM Secretariat. The Chief Minister said that these skill development programmes would be starting from June 30 and would be provided free of cost to those surrendered cadres.
He further said that those who have surrendered four years back would be allowed to stay at their respective homes.
Calling the ‘home-coming’ as an achievement of the new Government, he praised the surrendered cadre for joining the mainstream. Speaking at the occasion, the CM lauded the bold step taken by the militant to shun violence and join the path of peace and prosperity.
Strongly condemning the recent killings at Ukhrul district, he said that an FIR has been lodged and the entire area has been already cordoned off by a combined team of State police and Assam Rifles. Befitting punishments would be given to those perpetrators who are associated with such acts of terrorism, he added.
The surrendered cadre is identified as Soraisam Modhuchandra Singh alias SM Meitei (45), son of S Dinamani of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai.
He was working as a self styled commander of KCP Lamphel faction. The arms and ammunition deposited by him included two 9 mm pistols with magazines and nine live rounds.
The homecoming ceremony was also attended by DGP LM Khaute, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu and other top ranking police officials.
