Thoubal, Jan.3: Passenger service vehicles today stage a protest rally decrying the pathetic road condition of Sikhong Sekmai to Yairipok Keithel today afternoon. A public meeting was also held denouncing government failures to listen the grievances of the people. During the protest rally road stretch between Sikhong Sekmai to Yairipok Keithel was blocked and almost all shops and business establishment were shuts. Local clubs of the area supported the protest organized by the passenger service vehicles’ bodies Nongpok Ningthou Magic Assn and Pioneer Iris and Diesel Auto Owner and Driver Welfare Assn.
The IVR road stretch between Sikhong Sekmai to Yairipok Keithel is around 7 Kilometer.
The rally kicked start from Sikhong Sekmai Keithel and concluded at Yairipok Keithel. Later a public meeting was organized at NESA Club Ground of Sikhong Sekmai.
Councillor of ward No. 3 of Sikhong Sekmai Municipal Council, A Chandramani, while speaking at the meeting said that the road stretch has not been maintained for around 15 years.
“Last year some construction of the road was seen taken up but it didn’t last even a year”, Chandramani said.
He said the on December 15 on the day of the “Meeyamgi Numit”, the matter has been put to the notice of the Chief Minister.
Secretary of Nongpok Ningthou Magic Assn. N. Ashatomba while speaking during the meeting said that until the government authority assured to repair the road stretch all passenger service on the road will be out to halt.
