IMPHAL, August 13: “I will try my level best to participate in the Brazil Olympics, 2016”, said London Olympian Laishram Bombayla Devi at a public reception function near her home soon after her arrival in Imphal.
The reception function of the archer was organized by the Public Club Top Khongnang Makhong, Imphal East.
Speaking further to media persons on the sideline of the function, the archer said she scored 651 in the team event ranking round of the London Olympics, while with a total of 1938 points, her team was at the 9th spot of the team rankings.
She was at the top rank amongst the three Indian women’s archers. In the individual ranking event, she was positioned at the 22nd place.
She continued that her team got eliminated by only one point against the Denmark team. The Indian team scored 210, while their opponents scored just 211 to reach the next round.
He expressed that the team’s points were affected by the performance of her teammate Chekrovolu Sworo.
Further acknowledging that her performance was also not good at the ranking round, the state Olympian said, India could have reach the medal round if the team had done better in the ranking round.
Speaking about her single event, she said she lost because of her fourth set.
Bombayla had lost to Mexico’s Roman Aida by 93-107.
She lamented that she failed to score much in her fourth round and had shot some wash-outs too.
While accepting her poor performance, she said she was also affected by the weather and food habits.
The difference between the host country and places where she had undergone training had also affected her performance, she said.
Meanwhile, the Olympian had arrived at the Imphal airport at 12:30pm where she was warmly received with garlands and wishes by the general public and her family members.
Onlookers continued to stand by the roadsides to catch a glimpse of the Olympian.
Bombayla had also participated in 2008 Beijing Olympics.
