IMPHAL, Feb 14: The present academic environment of the state has only worsened with students joining in the confrontation between the state government and the teachers of government run schools. The student left with no other option but to fend for themselves, started locking up various schools since yesterday.
The students today locked various high schools and higher secondary schools located at Wangoi, mayang Imphal, Kakching, Thoubal Wangjing as a part of their agitation demanding resumption of regular classes in the schools. The students also locked the education (s) directorate office at Lamphelpat.
The students of the various government schools have initiated their separate agitations in the wake of the ongoing agitation that have been launched by the teachers body COTA demanding in toto implementation of the Central Revised Sixth Pay, the students of government run schools spearheaded by the All Manipur Government High and Higher School Students` Union Coordination Committee has locked down 10 government schools including the directorate of Education (S) Lamphel today.
Initially the students groups under the supervision of the committee locked the Directorate of Education (S) Lamphelpat and further continued locking high and higher secondary school located at Wangoi, Mayang Imphal, Kakching, Thoubal Wangjing etc as part of the protest demanding resumption of normal classes.
In the meantime it may be mentioned that the students` union coordination committee had demanded the concern government to bring an amicable solution to the impasse between the government and the COTA and failing which it has warned of different forms of agitation including burning down of schools.
