Two persons allegedly picked up by security force remain untraced

IMPHAL, Feb 20: Two individuals identified as one Chabungbam Manglemba Singh, 31, s/o Ch. Nungsijao Singh and Longjam Suresh Singh, 27, s/o L. Mangi Singh of Top Siphai Makha Leikai who have been allegedly whisked away by security personnel from their residence on the intervening night of February 18 and 19 have remained untraceable till date. In the connection a JAC was formed who had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Governor of the state today evening.
While speaking to mediapersons today the, Longjam Tomba Singh, convenor of the JAC alleged that the two individuals were picked up from their respective residences by the army in full combat dress who had come in two light vehicles during the intervening night of February 18 and 19 without issuing any arrest memo.
He further maintained that following the arrest, the family members of the two went to the Mayang Imphal police station and the 12th Maratha Light Infantry, Mayang Imphal to report about the arrest of the two, however to their utter dismay both the PS and the MLI denied any knowledge of the arrest.
While demanding the whereabouts of the two missing persons, the JAC also demanded that the two be handed over to the nearest police station at the earliest.
Meanwhile as a mark of protest against the incident the JAC volunteers blocked the Wangoi area since early morning today. However there was no report of any untoward incident during the protest.
