IMPHAL, Feb 25: In what could be describe as a return to normalcy after two days of tension, around 300 residents of Motbung, Saparmeina and Kangpkopi areas who have been taking shelter at the Koujenleima community hall, Sekmai, since February 23 following an alleged threat from KNF (P) have started returning to their villages. Normalcy returned in the said villages after an assurance from the SoO signatory group.
According to reliable sources, Aaron Kipgen, general secretary of the KNF (P) in the presence of state government representatives and other representatives of various civil society bodies, provided an assurance that the party will not harm the villagers and further appealed them to return to their respective villages and bring back the situation to normalcy.
An agreement was brought yesterday evening between the villagers and the SoO signatory that the party will assure that no harm comes to the villagers and that the party will try and maintain peace and unity in the area.
On the otherhand the United Committee Manipur vice president Y. Nabachandra, also disclosed that KNF (P) gave their assurance in front of various public representatives from various civil organizations including Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup, Universal Mothers Organisation, Adavanced Women Society, Awang Sekmai, Manipur Peace and Integrity Council, National Identity Protection Committee, United Peoples Front and Meitei Union, Sadar Hills, Kuki Inpi Manipur and Kuki Students Organisation, and also with ministerial team headed by government spokesperson N. Biren Singh, senior police and Assam Rifle officials at the Sekmai police station late last night before the Sekmai police station.
