Johnstone students nab UG harassing teachers

IMPHAL, Aug 31: Students, teachers and non-teaching staffs of the Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Imphal staged a protest sit-in at the front of the school against threats and intimidations meted out to teachers of the school by underground elements.
The protest was held from 10 am till 3 pm.
According to one of the protesting students, the protest was held in demand for a free zone in education sector and for maintaining peace and normalcy in academic institutions.
In the meantime, a source revealed today’s protest was held in connection with threats and intimidations meted out to  teachers of the Johnstone Higher Secondary School by some persons suspected to be militants.
According to a source, three person claiming to be members of the KCP (Noyon) faction came to the school yesterday morning around 10 am and called in all the teaching staffs of the school into a room and asked them to pay monetary amount of Rs. 5000 per teacher. They also demanded some amount from the scholarship amount sanctioned to the school meant for distribution to ST/SC and OBC students.
The teachers were confined to one room of the school from around 10.30 am till the afternoon. Most of the teachers failed to attend classes and the news of confinement of teachers was noticed by some students who came out to find out the reason behind the teachers failing to attend classes.
The news spread soon and a mob of students chased the suspected militants.
Two of the three suspected militants managed to flee from the school premises while one of them was caught and later handed over to the police.
The person has been identified as RK Bobby of Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai.
In the meantime, another protest sit-in was held at Lilong Arapti Turel Mapal.
The protest was held against the firing incident at the residence of Konthoujam Ibochouba Singh, senior audit officer, Accountant General, government of India on whose house unidentified gunmen fired some rounds of gunfire on August 29 evening around 8.30 pm.
