Chief Minister asserts NSA Imphal to benefit players of the entire NE region

IMPHAL, July 20: The National Sports Academy (NSA), Imphal will now avail maximum benefits to sportspersons not only in Manipur but the entire North Eastern state, said Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh today during the inauguration of the newly constructed boys and girls hostel, sports hostel and indoor hall of the National Sports Academy (NSA), Imphal situated at the Khuman Lampak Sports complex.

Further, in his speech as chief guest during the inaugural function organized at the indoor hall, the Chief Minister reminded that the sports academy has been constructed under the Prime Minister package which was provided by PM Manhohan Singh during his 2004 visit to the state.

He said that the package is a token of acknowledgement from the centre towards the outstanding sportspersons the state has been producing and the state’s potential in the field of sports.

Citing law and order situation for the delay in the completion of the basic infrastructure of the NSA, he contended that the inauguration of the three buildings is expected to give maximum benefit to the sports players not only of the state but of the entire North Eastern states.

He conveyed that the academy will not only impart trainings in sports but also provide proper forms of education at par with premier private schools by professional teachers in order to produce the finest sportspersons presentable at the national and international arena.

Ibobi Singh, further maintained that the quality and standard of the academy is not in anyway inferior to any premier sports academy anywhere in the country.

The institute will recruit a total of 60 players from six different sport disciplines with 50-50 percent division of the available seats between the state and other states, he stated before adding that state players will be given preference over unclaimed seats.

While delivering his presidential speech, YAS minister, DD. Thaisii, observed that sports is the hope for the future of Manipur and asserted that a comprehensive development in the field of sports has become a primary task.

He has further appealed to the teachers who will be providing formal education to the sportspersons at the academy to be committed and sincere while imparting knowledge and help in molding better sportspersons who could bring pride and fame to the state and the nation.

As per an official information provided to the media persons, the total estimated cost for the construction of the entire infrastructure of the NSA excluding the indoor hall is said to be Rs 1843.17 crore which was provided under the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resource (NLCPR) fund, the infrastructure consist of a school building (doubled storied) estimated at Rs 562.18 lakhs, administrative building estimated at Rs 105.87 lakhs, Type-IV quarters estimated at Rs 56.78 lakhs, Type-II quarters Rs 126.77 lakhs, Type-II quarters (ground floor) Rs 26.32 lakhs, Type-I quarters estimated at Rs 16.69 lakhs, hostels buildings for both boys and girl estimated at Rs 474.28 lakhs each.

The official report has also maintained that the construction of the Indoor hall was taken up with an estimated cost of Rs 412.86 lakhs out of the Rs 1500.00 lakhs which had been accorded by the centre under the 12th Finance Commission Award 2005-10 for

The official report further maintained that the indoor hall was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 412.85 lakhs which was taken from the Rs 1500 lakhs accorded by the 12 Finance commission award for upgradation of maintenance of the Khuman Lampak sports Complex.

Meanwhile the construction works for the whole National Sports Academy was undertaken by the Manipur Development society as the implementing agency, said a source.

The NSA was established on July 24, 2007 at the sports hostel No.1 Khuman Lampak Sports complex with funding from the ministry of DoNER, government of India. The aims and objective of the academy is to nurture talented youths of the country in prioritized disciplines of Archery, Boxing, Judo, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Weightlifting from an early stage to produce world class excellence in sports at international events.

The inauguration function was also attended by I. Hemochandra, speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly; IFCD minister N. Biren; Kakching MLA Y Surchandra; Khurai MLA Dr. Ng. Bijoy; Yaiskul MLA E. Suraj, officials of YAS, students and teachers.

Meanwhile, after the conclusion of the inauguration function, the Chief Minister also inspected the currently undergoing construction site of capitol project.
