IMPHAL August 8: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur in a press release issued by its chairman today demanded for the inclusion of Alternative English as language (II) subject in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).
The optional subject in lieu of MIL recognized by the government of Manipur are just few such as Rongmei, Vaiphei, Mizo, Kuki-Thadou, Tangkhul, etc. while large chunk of unrecognized tribes reside in the state, the release said.
The release demanded that the aspiring candidates should be given a chance to appear in the said test without any condition with regards to the cut-off percentage for SC/ST and the examination for the said TET should be conducted at the respective concerned district head quarters. Further, the release demanded that the date of form submission should be extended further particularly for Tamenglong and Senapati districts in view of the present situation as many applicants are facing difficulties in submitting application forms at their concerned ZEO office due to indefinite bandh and blockade on NH 37 and NH39.The release added that the student body will initiate stern agitations if the government fail to comply on their demands.
