IMPHAL, October 1: The leader’s meet of Sadar Hills which was convened today at the council hall Kangpokpi has resolved to ban all forms of political activities in connection with the upcoming general assembly election within the month of October at Sadar Hills area as its course of action for the month in demands for a separate Sadar Hills district
The closed door meet attended by MDCs, MLAs, ex-ministers, SAHILCA, women’s organization and Church leaders started from 11:30 am and concluded late in the evening.
Briefing media persons after the meet, Seikhothang Haokip, spokesperson Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC), informed that the economic blockade imposed along the National Highways will remained as it is until the demand of the SHDDC to inaugurate Sadar Hills into full fledged district is fulfilled by the government.
He asserted that the meet after deliberate discussions resolved to ban all forms of political activities like campaigning or any other election related activities in Sadar Hills, in connection with the upcoming election within the month of October. The course of action there after will be decided in another round of meeting, he said.
The spokesperson also strongly condemned the warrant of arrest issued against the executive members of the SHDDC asserting the government will be held responsible in the event of any unwanted incident inflicted upon the leaders due to warrant.
He informed that the meet also further resolved to intensify its agitation by mobilizing support of the issue in all the districts of state.
At the same time, Seikhothang further clarified that the allegation made against the SHDDC of issuing permits to allow free passage during the blockade to the three trucks burnt in Kangpokpi on the night of September 29, is baseless and unfounded. The SHDDC did not issue any permits of any forms to the destroyed trucks and have never given permits to anyone, he said.
