IMPHAL, December 29: A suspected militant has been gunned down late this evening during an encounter at Wakha road at the foothill of Baruni hill range in Imphal east district by a team of Imphal east cdo team.
According to a police source, the incident happened this evening around 7pm when Imphal east CDO team acting on a reliable information about the presence of UGs in the area conducted an operation.
The source further informed that the cdo team was fired upon by the group of militant cadres who had already positioned themselves in the area which instigated the cdo team to retaliate. In the ensuing firing, a militant cadre was killed, the source added.
Further according to the police recovered one 9mm pistol from the possession of the deceased person along with five live rounds of 9mm ammunitions and one magazine of AK series rifle with four live rounds.
The corpse of the yet to be identified person have been deposited at JNIMS mortuary, the source informed.
