Central paramilitary begin pouring in ahead of Jan 28 polls

IMPHAL, Jan 16: Various security measures taken up in preparation of the forthcoming Assembly elections are being strengthened say reliable sources. Out of the 350 companies including 1 reserved company deputed for election duty, 218 companies have reached the state till date. These include personnel from the CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, Assam Police, Orissa Police, Railway Protection Force, Bihar police, Andhra Pradesh Police, Mizoram police, Tripura police, Jharkhand police and CISF.

Out of 45 companies to be stationed for election duty in Imphal East district, 27 companies have reached while 28 companies out of the 50 to be stationed in Imphal have reached. For Thoubal district, 27 out of 55 companies have reached while Bishenpur will be allocated 28 companies, out of which 15 have reached.

Further, 30 companies for Churachandpur have reached out of a total 41 while for Chandel, 14 out of 20 companies have reached. 12 companies out of 30 for Ukhrul have reached the state while Senapati will have 50 companies on election security duty, out of which 44 have reached. 21 companies out of a total 30 meant for Tamenglong have also reached

It may also be added that a total of 2356 of polling stations are spread across the state out of which, 872 are hyper sensitive, 1325 are sensitive and only 160 are categorized as normal. Thoubal district has the maximum of hyper sensitive polling stations (227) followed by Ukhrul with 144.

293 sensitive in Imphal West has 293 sensitive polling stations while Senapati follows closely behind with 218 sensitive stations. Imphal East district with 105 normal polling stations seems to be set for peaceful elections along with 34 normal polling stations in Chandel and 21 in Imphal West while the remaining 6 districts have no normal polling stations.
