IMPHAL January 19: Yesteryears popular film actress and Rajya Sabha MP, Hema Malini Thursday appealed to the `anti-social elements` spreading violence in Manipur to join the BJP asserting that it will help in exploring ways to solve their problems through discussion.

Hema Malini, who travelled to Manipur on a one-day visit, addressed five election rallies in as many assembly constituencies in poll-bound Manipur, including in Thoubal district, a stronghold of chief minister Okram Ibobi.

Hema Malini, who is also national BJP vice president, while addressing the rallies in various venues today accused the Congress-led Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government in Manipur as well as the UPA at the Centre of not providing the ‘basic needs’ of the people of the state like electricity, water and road connectivity.

She said10 years ago she came here for a performance and that she did not see much change in the state even after a decade, adding that in BJP- ruled states like Gujarat, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, a lot of positive changes have been brought about by the respective governments.

Taking a dig at the Congress led SPF government, Hema Malini said the menace of unemployment, poverty and lack of a good education system is still persisting the state because the government has failed to take up adequate measures to tackle them.

Manipur has its own vast natural beauty that can be developed into a ‘big tourism spot’ which in turn can bring huge income to the state, the MP pointed out and questioned why the Manipur government is not taking up such policies.

The assembly constituencies where she addressed were Wangkhei, Keirao, Thoubal, Uripok and Thangmeiband.

Hema Malini left the state at around 3 pm.
