KYKL`s ban to effect around 7000 HSLCE students

IMPHAL, Feb 19: Reacting to the controversial clearance of about 7000 candidates by Board of Secondary Education in Manipur to sit in the HSLC examinations at its centres in the hill districts, KYKL stated that majority of them lacked valid grounds and further prohibited them from appearing in the examination. It also exhorted their parents to voluntarily withdraw their wards.

The outfit stated in a press release that the present dilemma is the culmination of a huge scam by corrupted BoSEM officials worth crores of rupees. It recounted that of the 7000 prospective candidates, 1000 have already received permission while effort to clear the rest of them was underway. However, according to the KYKL, just about 30 of them have valid grounds to appear in the centres in the hill districts.

Most of the students have not registered to the board from the centres from Class VIII at least three years back as required to make them eligible to sit in this year’s  exams. However, following request from 11 schools, the issue of their eligibility was discussed by different committees set up by the board which summarily rejected their pleas. However, in pursuance of another resolution of the committee on verification of their eligibility, the board asked the applicants to forward their names again. However, the move from board does not in any term can be confused with consent for their appearance in the HSLCE.

At the same time, half of the 180 students from CBSE who had applied for transfer to the state board do not possess genuine documents and none of them meet the requirement demanded.

Spelling out its position on the opinions issued by several students’ organizations, the group shot down the argument that the candidates, even though not meeting the criteria, should be allowed to sit in the examination, based on the reasoning that it was the board which had committed the mistake by giving their permission.

Overlooking a crime being committed for the sake of a handful of students is disregarding the whole society and the truth itself, it stated. Surrendering to their demands will be short-sightedness and in reality will amount to misleading them in the guise of helping them.
