Stary incidents of violence reported during re-poll

IMPHAL, March 4: The repoll conducted today though concluded peacefully was not entirely without some stray incidents of firing. Police sources stated firing was heard in the vicinity of two polling stations and individual sustained minor injuries.

The first incident took place at H Champhai, 46/23, which comes under Saikhul a/c of Senapati district at about 10.30 am today.The villagers at the station ran after hearing the sounds of gunfire which was heard for more than 20 minutes . The firing was also retaliated by the security forces. A person reportedly received a bullet scratch in the incident. The source further stated that the KLO/KLA might be behind the firing.

Similarly, it was reported that numerous rounds of gunfire was heard near Ekou Molang,46/15  polling station which comes under Saikhul assembly constituency. The firing was heard at about 9.50 am from the hillocks located near the said polling station today.The station was heavily guarded by state and other paramilitary forces ,however there was no exchange of gunfire. Police sources stated that the firing may have been carried out by a hill based UG outfit with intent to disrupt the repoll.
