NEW DELHI, Mar 18 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Dinesh Trivedi, conforming to his party chief, Mamata Banerjee`s orders resigned as railway minister on Sunday evening.

Putting to rest speculations prevailing over his resignation, Trivedi said here that he spoke to Mamata Banerjee over the telephone and got her confirmation to resign as Union railway minister.

“I spoke to Mamata Banerjee, a little while ago, just to get her confirmation that it was party`s decision that I must step down. And since the party, Trinamool Congress was instrumental in making me the railway minister, Mamata Banerjee`s instructions were very clear that it was the party`s decision and like a soldier I must obey the party`s discipline that is the way I have been trained,” Trivedi told reporters here.

Trivedi further thanked the TMC, Mamata Banerjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his cabinet colleagues for giving him the opportunity to work as the railway minister.

Admiring the role of Indian Railway as an organization Trivedi said it was one of the best in the world.

He added that he tried his level best to do whatever little he could do in the interest of the railways in interest of the country.
