IMPHAL, March 26: Security forces have arrested five militants from the state during separate counter insurgency operations during the past two days.
According to a PRO press release, discovering the presence of UG cadre in the general area of Ward No 7, Moreh town of Chandel district, troops of 9 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under hq IGAR (S) launched operation in the area and apprehended one alleged PLA cadre on March 25.
The arrested individual has been identified as s/s captain Ibocha Singh alias Khamba, 63 of Ward no 7 Moreh. One M-20 pistol with five live rounds was recovered from his possession the statement added.
The troops of the unit launched another operation in ward no 9 Moreh and apprehended an alleged KYKL cadre the same day. Further according to the statement, the apprehended individual has been identified as M Suresh, 25 son of J Murugeshan of Ward no 2 Moreh.
Two electronic detonators, seven 5.56 mm live rounds and six 9mm live rounds were recovered from him, it stated.
Both the apprehendees alongwith the recovered arms were later handed over to the Imphal west police, the release added.
In a similar incident, troops of 42 AR of 26 Sector under hq IGAR (S) launched an operation in Pallel and apprehended one alleged PREPAK cadre the same day. The apprehendee identified as Thokchom Nonihel Singh alias Brijon, 29 son of (L) Thokchom Amusing of Irilbung Imphal east has been handed over to the Kakching police station.
The release has also added that troops of 23 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under hq IGAR (S) launched an operation in the area and apprehended one drug peddler on March 26. The apprehendee has been identified as AS Yao Reiwung son of AS Ruichumhao of Tingui Ukhrul district. Five kgs of Opium was recovered from him, the statement added.
Meanwhile, a PIB statement has added that on March 26, troops of 22 AR under the aegis of Red Shield Division on receiving specific information about the presence of CorCom (PLA) cadres in the general area of Leingongpokpi launched an operation alongwith the police representatives of Jiribam police and arrested two CorCOm (PLA) cadres.
The two has been identified as Raghu Singh alias Ingouba, 32 son of Tomei Singh of Yairipok village and Mayana Lembam Ibomcha Singh son of M Bira Singh of Unchathal, Jiribam. The two has been handed over to the Jiribam police station, the release added.
