IMPHAL, April 9: The 42nd foundation Day celebration of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) was held at the Annex Hall of Manipur Congress Bhavan here on Tuesday.

Manipur home minister and MPCC president Gaikhangam, Henglep constituency MLA T Manga Vaiphei and ADM general secretary S Jiten graced the event as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.

Addressing the gathering, Gaikhangam said the main reason behind the involvement of some security personnel in different crimes in the state is due to lack of discipline and a line of mannerism which they should have learnt from schools in their early periods of life and termed such incidents as “unfortunate.”

Apparently acknowledging the fact that the public are suffering from a fear psychosis over the attitude of police, Gaikhangam said a people-friendly police force would be made to spring up soon.

Most of the VDF personnel in the state are seemingly not in the habit of maintaining good behaviour and discipline while discharging their duties, the home minister acknowledged before added that many of these personnel skipped moral and discipline lessons in schools.

All the state force, particularly the lower rank group would be taught practical moral and discipline lessons to make them a people-friendly force, Gaikhangam assured during the function.

T Manga Vaiphei stated during the foundation day observation that the NSUI has its branches in 13 colleges of the state apart from the NSUI state unit and it is one of the biggest student organisations in South East Asia.

Speaking as the president of the observation, the Henglep MLA further urged the office bearers of the organisation to work for the betterment and welfare of the student community.
