IMPHAL, Sep 12: The consensus presidential candidate of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) is likely to be finalized tomorrow after getting approval from the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

The contending presidential candidates of MPCC are the incumbent president Gaikhangam and chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board, E. Dwijamani. The dates for filing of nomination paper have been fixed on September 12 and 13 and the presidential election of MPCC has been scheduled on September 17.

On the first day of filing nomination today, none of the contending candidates has filed the nomination paper. It is believed that the AICC always prefer to set up a consensus presidential candidate rather than putting up many candidates in the fray.

As per a reliable source, the election observer appointed by the Central Election Authority of AICC, Sanjay Dadlika, today interacted with the members of PCC and presidents of DCC who are the electorates of the presidential election and recorded their opinions separately so as to sort out a consensus candidate from among the two aspiring candidates, Gaikhangam and Dwijamani.

The election observer Sanjay also held a special meeting with chief minister O. Ibobi this evening at his official bungalow regarding the presidential election of MPCC.

It was learnt from sources that the election observer has submitted the comments and observations of the PCC members and DCC presidents to the AICC in the evening for sorting out a consensus presidential candidate of MPCC. However, the approval from the AICC did not arise even in the late evening till the time of filing this report.
