Huge drug haul by police

IMPHAL, May 19: In one of the biggest drug hauls in the state, the Imphal East police on Saturday seized 72,000 strips of Asmapax, Respifed and Coscold tablets which contained highly sedative Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine Hydrochlorides worth around Rs 5 lakh.

The consignment was seized from a drug peddler named Murali Kumar Yadav, 40, son of Lalbachi Yadav of Sihimar village, Shamastipur district, Bihar, presently staying at Paona Bazaar opposite HMT building.

The drugs were recovered from a godown at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai in Imphal West around 2:30 pm during a search operation conducted by a team of Imphal East police commandos led by Inspector Sh Chandrakumar under the supervision of M Rajen, Additional Superintendant of Police, Imphal East.

The arrested drug peddler admitted that he transported such kind of drugs from Guwahati to Moreh, ASP Rajen told the media in a press briefing at his office.

One of his associates, namely Joshi Kuki is yet to be apprehended, the ASP added.
