Prisoner dies

IMPHAL, May 25: An inmate of the Sajiwa Central Jail, who was being treated at JNIMS after falling sick, died on Friday, a police source said.

The under trial identified as Yumnam Rajen, 40, son of (L) Y Chaoba, of Bishnupur Ward No-6 Makha Leikai, was serving a sentence in the Sajiwa Central Jail since November 2008 in a case of immoral activities he committed on women and other crimes related to thefts.

The Bishnupur Police Station was informed by the jail authority on May 8 last that Rajen was suffering from an illness. He had been undertaking medical treatment at JNIMS since then.

He died at 3:45 pm at the hospital.

However, the source failed to provide the details of his illness.

The body was handed over to family members after the post mortem was conducted at the JNIMS.

Meanwhile, a man who was recuperating at home after undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital and Raj Polyclinic for head injuries died today in the wee hours today.

The victim, Khoirom Ibocha, 55, son of (L) Kh Ram of Yairipok Khoirom Makha Leikai, was attacked on his head with an axe handle from behind by a psychiatric patient while he was sitting at a tea stall in his locality on April 22 last.

He succumbed at around 1 am at his home after taking medical treatment at Shija Hospitals and Raj Polyclinic for about a month.

The attacker, Sanabam Birchandra, 65 of Khoirom Makha Leikai was arrested by police on May 10 after he had absconded for weeks. He is now in Sajiwa Central Jail.

The body has been handed over to the family after conducting autopsy at JNIMS.
