IMPHAL, June 9: The distribution of 5th cash prize with certificate Meritorious Award for HSLC exam, 2012 for the five hill districts of the state was held at the Tribal Research Institute, Chingmeirong today.
The felicitation programme was organized by the Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur, ICHAM in memory of (L) N Thoithoi alias Bungcha.
The programme was attended by chief advisor, ICHAM, K Madhumangol, Naoriya pakhanglakpa MLA, RK Anand and Chingai MLA, MK Preshaw Shimray and Imphal East Adhyaksha Bimola as president, chief guest and guests of honour respectively.
The students felicitated during the programme include three students each from the five hill districts of the state.
Speaking at the programme, MLA Chingai, MK Preshaw Shimray congratulated the students and added that several students from the hill districts had passed with more than 80 percent marks in this year’s HSLC exam which is heart-warming.
He said that schools in the hill districts lack proper infrastructure, teachers among many other things and to produce such toppers from the districts should be lauded by all.
He continued sincerity towards one’s work, willingness and hard work and dedication is needed along with ample support from the teachers to become a good student.
He further highlighted the difference between education now in the hills and during his youth in the early 1970s.
He said the teachers back then were very dedicated towards their work regardless of their posting areas.
The teachers used to impart not only school education to their students back then, but they would mingle with the villagers of the area they were posted in and teach them on various issues including cleanliness and personal hygiene.
Nowadays, teachers only want their postings to be in Imphal and whenever they are posted in the interior areas of the state, they would lobby for their transfer back to Imphal.
He further urged the concern authorities to look into the issue.
