IMPHAL, June 17: The 48-hour total bandh enforced by the United Naga Council (UNC) in the four hill districts of the state since last midnight is continuing without any unwanted incidents but paralyzing normal life.
The strike has been imposed by UNC against the government apathy toward the long pending demand of “Alternative Arrangement.”
Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel and Tamenglong are the four districts where the apex Naga body has been enforcing the bandh which ends tomorrow midnight.
All the markets in the hill districts remained closed due to the strike on Sunday. All the vehicles including inter-state passenger buses were off the roads in the four districts. Normal life was hit due to the total bandh in the districts. However, today being Sunday, people attended churches as usual, sources said.
The Zeliangrong Youth Front, Naga NGO had announced that it would not support the UNC sponsored bandh.
