IMPHAL, June 23: State Electricity Department has collected a total tax of Rs 3.6 lakh from both authorized and unauthorized power consumers with the state police arresting 18 such consumers during a drive begun yesterday in the four valley districts.
The drive which was carried out against tax evaders, unauthorized consumers and those who reconnected their power lines after disconnection for non-payment of tax covered Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur district and Thoubal district, official sources said.
`It is being carried out under the supervision of the state Chief Engineer, Power by six teams and each team was led by one Executive Engineer of the department. Such drive will be continued in future, the sources said.
In all, 54 unauthorized power connections that had due tax were cut off on Saturday’s drive carried out in the four districts and that the police has registered separate cases against the 18 individuals arrested on the charges of illegal power connections in the drive.
