IMPHAL, June 23: Imphal saw for the first time , the attitude X generation display their hidden skills. At an event held at BOAT this evening, youngsters from various backgrounds, mostly teenagers enthralled the crowd with their dance skills, a BMX stunt exhibit further pushed the crowd to sporadic applause.
The event titled X Jam Metropolis Manipur, History in the Making and organized by Attitude X Events and Entertainment ,catered to exposing the underground talents of the youth of this state.
The evening saw street dancers compete with each other and groupwise. The B-Boying show exhibited for the first time in the state, was the main attraction as the dancers displayed a combined talent of gymnastics and dance.
B-Boying comprises of hip –hop, footwork,powermoves and freeze. The dancers were witnessed performing somersaults, handstands, headstands, cartwheels and other bone breaking moves in tandem with the blasting tempo of hip hop music. The competitors display their moves against the opposing dancer, involving myriad body languages.
Niran Thongbam, a spectator told IFP , “ I have never witnessed such a show in my life, the skills of these kids are mind blowing and the B-Boying concept is a very healthy trend. It’s a thrill to watch them compete in dance which involves so much complicated maneuvers”.
Main organizer of the show, Umananada Mangang told IFP that the objective of the event is to gather the hidden talents of the youths and giving them a platform to display their talents.
“We have so much talents in our youths, the X games demands quality BMX’ing, skateboarding and B-Boying skills, we have all that as everyone here can witness. We want to provide an arena to expose their skills and further to groom the talents for the international competitions”, he said.
The event was the first ever complete X- Sport competition held in the state.
B-Boys from “Nightmare Club” told IFP that they learnt the intricate dance moves from you tube videos.
“We practice at our houses after downloading the videos of B-Boying from the internet, though our parents protest, we love to B-Boy and it involves so much painstaking hard work, our training regimen has a strict No to Drugs policy”, Stefen, a class X student of Kendra Vidyalaya said.
The dancers echoed that they are practicing at any available space which involves a smooth floor. “Right now, we do our synchronized performance moves at Eastern Ground, Wangkhei”, S Justin from Chingmeirong said. He further voiced want of a station equipped to practice their dance moves.
Umananda Mangang, the organizer added that their management team has been organizing such events in the north east states for the last five years. “ We have organized similar events in Assam, Shillong and Mizoram, we are a support group for the generation X”, he said.
The 4 day X Games extravaganza which commenced from June 21 ,involves a video gameing competition , B-Boying, BMX and skateboarding competitions and will conclude at Classic Hotel tomorrow. The culminating day will feature music talents of the state with a rock show. The prizes are sponsored by Hercules Cycles.
