IMPHAL, July 18: The three MPs and 42 MLAs of Indian National Congress along with seven MLAs of All India Trinamool Congress, five MLAs of Manipur State Congress Party, four MLAs of Naga People’s Front and one MLA each of Lok Janshakti Party and Nationalist Congress Party will vote for the UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjeee in the Presidential Election tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons today, AITC MLA Dr I Ibohalbi stated that the seven AITC MLAs from Manipur have decided to cast their vote in favour of Pranab Mukherjee as per the decision of the Party High Command.
Trinamool leader Mukul Roy contacted him soon after Mamta Banerjee’s declaration of supporting Pranab Mukherjee in the Presidential Election. The party senior leader instructed him to announce the stance of the state MLAs to the Public, Ibohalbi said.
Meanwhile, state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi invited all opposition MLAs to his Bungalow and canvassed for UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee today. All opposition MLAs, except for NPF and NCP were present at the meeting with the Chief Minister.
The NPF MLAs and NCP MLA L Ibomcha could not attend the meeting as they were out of station, but the Chief Minister had previously requested the MLAs to cast their vote for Pranab.
The Presidential Election in the state will be held at the Committee Room of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
