Khuman Lampak stadium to be renovated: CM

IMPHAL, July 28: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today inspected the Khuman Lampak Sports complex for its upgradation under the 13thFinance Commission Award, 2010-15.

The state Chief Minister was accompanied by Manipur Olympic Association, president, Bijoy Koijam, MLA M Prithiviraj, YAS Director H Deleep among other officials, coaches and members of all state sport associations.

During the inspection tour which started at 8am, the Chief Minister and his team visited all the stadiums in the sports complex and ended his tour with a discussion inside the MOA conference hall attended by several coaches and state sports association members.

During the said discussion, the coaches and members of the different state sports’ associations appealed to the Chief Minister for a policy or a programme to upgrade the level of coaches of the several sporting disciplines in the state.

Meanwhile, the coaches also urged the Chief Minister to streamline the YAS department and look into the department’s different shortcomings.

They further urged the Chief Minister to look into the payment of the TA/DA of the officials and players for national championship participations and make it reach the players and officials in time.

Meanwhile, due to the different needs and wants expressed by all the state associations of different sports disciplines, the Chief Minister told the YAS department to institute a sub-committee and report to him on the needs and shortcomings of the associations after listing it on a priority basis.

During the discussion, the Chief Minister also said that the total funding for the upgradation of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex is Rs 100 crores.

Meanwhile, according to an official statement made available to the media houses, the up-gradation project includes changing of flood lights and replacement of Synthetic surface (Astro turf) for the main stadium.

Other upgradation of the main stadium include sealing of expansion joints, score board with LCD booth, replacement of synthetic track and laying of synthetic track for practice, replacement of plastic chairs, tensile membrane structure.

Upgradation of the hockey stadium includes replacement of Synthetic surface (Astro turf), score board with LCD Booth, roofing of western gallery, etc.

Upgradation for Cycle velodrome includes improvement of drainage system, repairing of the velodrome, painting anti-skid of track, etc.

Under the project a learner’ pool (50’ x 30’) with filtration plant will also be constructed at the Aquatic Complex.

Other upgradations include solar power with electric back-up heating system for existing swimming pool, diving pool and learners’ pool and upgradation of filtration plant and robot cleaning system; replacement of bulbs and indoor lighting, score board and acoustic of synthetic surface for the Indoor system and improvement of target system and flooring for shooting range and the construction of warm-up hall for Kangsang; changing rooms (boys & girls), office room, store room, bathrooms and toilets (separate men’s and women’s) for fencing, Wu-shu, Indoor Weight-lifting hall, Sepak Takraw, archery pavilion 90m distance maximum, boxing gym/indoor hall with sound proof, wrestling, Kabadi, Javelin throw, shot-put, long jump, high-jump.

The project also includes 150 capacity separate hostels for boys and girls, four public toilets and pavilion shed for practice fields (with three toilets) and street lighting system and laying of optical fiber cables.
