IMPHAL, August 11: Hostellers of the GP Women’s College hostel and the three hostels of the DM College of Science, Arts and Commerce hostels today convened a combined press conference at the DM College commerce today expressing dissatisfaction over the increase in their hostel fees structure.
According to the student hostellers, the most-steep rise is seen in the Water fees. While for the DM Science and the Arts hostels, water fees have been increased from Rs 600 to Rs 1000, for DM Commerce it has been increased from Rs 700 to Rs 1000 while for GP Women’s Hostel which is also located inside the DM college campus it has been increased from Rs 800 to Rs 1000.
Monthly fee structures for several facilities including medical, newspaper, electricity, common room fees have also been increased.
The students during the press conference said Education (U) Addl Director RK Yaishkul and the principals of the four colleges had met to discuss the fee structure and had resolved during the meeting that there can be no variation from the new fee structure.
They had also informed the students to submit their memorandum on their grievances to the concerned Minister.
The students further announced that they will start agitations unless the fee structures are rolled back by August 15.
