Manipur, IMPHAL, September 8: A remote control triggered IED explosion injured a security personnel and a civilian along the Airport road near Tiddim ground under Singjamei Police Station this morning around 8:10am.
The exact location of the explosion is just about 100 metre away from the Kwakeithel Police outpost.
The security personnel injured has been identified as Harjinder Singh, 30 of Gurdaspur Punjab a Lance Naik of the A Coy, 18 Sikh and currently deployed at the Imphal Airport.
The injured civilian has been identified as Akham Shanti, 31 son of (L) Modhu of Kwakeithel Bazar.
Both are said to have received only minor injuries on their legs.
The explosion happened as troops of the 18th Sikh Regiment were on a routine patrol along the busy airport road.
Today’s explosion comes close on the heels of the Keishampat Lairembi community hall explosion.
A powerful IED explosion had injured two Assam Rifles personnel at Keishampat Lairembi Leirak on September 5 morning at 8:45am. The two locations are just two-three kms apart.
The IED along the busy Airport road was planted on the road diversion and police suspect the explosion to be remote controlled.
The Keishampat Keisham leikai community hall explosion was also suspected to be remote controlled.
Meanwhile, reacting to the present law and order situation in the state following the two powerful explosions in just four days, the Imphal West SP issued a press release laying down certain norms, requesting the general public to help prevent planting and explosion of IEDs in the state.
The release has said that in view of the recent incidents, involving planting and explosion of IEDs by UGs causing injuries to public and security forces, and as a part of preventative measures against any untoward incidents like bomb/IED blasts in the run up to the local body election in the Imphal West district, the district police seek co-operation of the public and request them to help in preventing such incidents in the following manner.
It has asked the general public to avoid unnecessary crowding, not allow unattended vehicles to be parked in front of house/shop etc, alert/inform the police for any unattended/abandoned vehicle, do not touch any suspicious objects, do not accept any gifts/packets from unknown person, check one’s surroundings for any unusual changes and to check any suspicious behaviour of peoples/strangers.
