IMPHAL, Sept 10: In a joint suicide bid, a class eight student of Keibung primary school hung himself to death in the verandah of his school early this morning, while three of his classmates survived after they all tried to commit suicide by hanging themselves.
The deceased suicide victim is identified as Maibam Milan, alias Nanao, 18, son of Shyam of Leishangthem Keli Makhong and the rest of the survivors includes Miss Anar, 14, daughter of Rehman of Keibung Sanasibi leirak, Heikrujam Jiban, 14, son of Manao of Leishangthem Kelimakhong and Sagolsem Amarjit, 14 son of Khelen Thoudam.
The four are classmates studying together in class VIII at Keibung Aided high school. The deceased and Miss Anar are reportedly having a love relationship. The four students were reportedly scolded for misbehavior by their teacher.
Police interrogated the surviving students and found that the deceased M Milan started sending sms repeatedly yesterday after midnight, 12:30 am asking them to come out. And when Milan and Anar were planning to commit suicide together, Jiban and Amarjit stopped them. However, after discussion, all four decided to commit suicide together.
Miss Anar was the first who tried to commit suicide, but Milan intervened saying he could not see her dying instead stepped in and hang himself first and died. And when Anar started to hang herself, Jiban and Amarjit intervened and lifted her legs up and saved her.
Police found the rope used by Milan and other three ropes besides four suicide notes from the area.
