IMPHAL, Sep 20: The Imphal East district police have achieved success in various counter insurgency operations in the district jurisdictions during the last few months after the concerned district police commandos were able to control the activities of the underground cadres in the district.
Stating this, M Rajen, Addl SP Ops Imphal East during a press briefing this morning informed that a team of the district police commandos were able to arrest four cadres of different underground groups and recovered several arms and ammunitions from their possession.
The Addl SP further mentioned that the recent achievements were possible due to the various measures and steps taken up by the district police during round the clock frisking and checking and setting up of sub units of the district police commandos for the past two months. As a result the district police have been able to arrest numerous underground activists.
The officer further told the media today at Imphal East district police at Porompat in Imphal that the combined team of the Imphal East commandos and Assam Rifles have been able to arrest four underground activists from different parts of the district since yesterday in separate counter insurgency related incidents, following an official information received regarding the movement of underground activists in separate areas under the jurisdiction of the district.
Initially the combined team of district police commandos of Imphal East and the personnel of 28 Assam Rifles, Andro Post had arrested two PREPAK cadres identified as Huidrom Kumar Singh alias Ibocha, 48, son of Late H Mani Singh of Andro Khunou Torongthel from Andro Khunou and Khunumayum Romesh Singh alias Nilachandra Singh, 27, son of Kh Angou Singh of Andro Machengpat from Yairipok Ngariyan Chingkhong and from them the security forces were able to recover two AK 56 rifles with one magazine each and 50 live rounds.
In yet another incident, another combined team of CDO/Imphal East and the personnel of 23 AR Yaingangpokpi post arrested two KCP (MC) cadres namely Meitankeishangbam Jiban Singh alias Katung, 28, son of M Priyokumar Singh of Sabungkhok Makha Leikai and Thokchom Sanayanba Meitei alias Apao, 29, son of late Th Bame Singh of Sabungkhok Makha Leikai at present staying at Seijang Awang Leikai from their respective houses along with one .32 pistol loaded with four live rounds in the magazine from their possession.
The Addl SP further stated that all four arrested cadres are active members of their respective groups and that the recovered arms are used for intimidating the public and to collect money from the public and offices.
He further expressed that the recovering of the arms and ammunition will amount to a decrease in the intimidations of the public by underground cadres in the district.
In the meantime, the arrested undergrounds were paraded before the media at Imphal East police station at Porompat in Imphal along with the arms and ammunitions which were recovered from their possession this morning.
