Manipur, IMPHAL, September 23: After a brief reprieve, the state capital witnessed another IED explosion today along the Tiddim roadside along the Tiddim Ground at 12:20pm a few metres south of the Kwakeithel Police outpost.
The explosion however failed to inflict any casualties.
Another IED was recovered from the Sangaiporou chowk today, said a PRO IGAR statement.
No one has claimed responsibility for the said explosion till the filling of this report.
Today’s explosion came just 10 days after the last IED explosion on September 14 which had injured a BSF personnel.
Meanwhile, a team of Singjamei Police led by OC Santosh came and inspected the spot. Sikh regiment posted at the Imphal Airport patrols the area daily.
According to a PRO IGAR (S) statement, troops of 18th Sikh of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) intercepted an IED with 10×4 inch dimension from the Sangaiporou chowk today. The IED was found with plastic explosives and outer casing was covered with nail.
The foot patrol of the unit while carrying out search of the area found a suspected item packed with nails, it said.
The statement also said the area was cordoned off by the troops and bomb disposal squad of the Imphal West police was informed.
Later the IED was neutralised and disposed off, it said.
Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that the RPF had already warned that it will continue to target security forces in the state.
Militant outfits have been triggering explosions in the state since September 5. Today’s explosion is the fourth such explosion along the Tiddim road.
The series of explosions this month in the state had started with an IED explosion on September 5 morning at Keishampat Keisham Leikai near the Lairembi Community hall injuring two Assam Rifles personnel.
Another IED exploded on September 8 at Tiddim Road just about 100 metres away from the Kwakeithel Police Outpost injuring a Sikh Regiment personnel and a civilian.
The series of IED explosions continued with another explosion at Kumbi on September 9 killing one security person and injuring several others.
Another IED was disposed off by the police at Paite Veng near Health Minister Phungjathang Tonsing’s residence along the Tiddim road.
One September 12 a grenade was found inside the Old Secretariat compound, while the Lamphel office of the RAW was rocked by an IED explosion in the wee hours of September 14.
Another IED was recovered from the residential quarter of BRTF CO at Lamphel on September 14.
On September 14 an IED explosion had injured BSF personnel at Heirok Part II Ningthoujam Leikai.
