MAASI celebrates ‘World Tourism Day’

IMPHAL, September 27: As celebrated every year throughout the world on September 27 as “the World Tourism Day,” the Manipur Adventure & Allied Sports Institute (MAASI) celebrated the day at its complex at Keirao in Imphal East District today.

The theme of the year is “Tourism and Sustainable Energy Giving Special Emphasis on: international Tourism on Track to hit on Billion by end of 2012; Food Tourism on important pillar for Tourism Growth along Silk Road; Contribution to the three pillars of Sustainable; Proceeding Job and Supporting the Livelihoods of millions particularly for women and youth people; Green innovation in Tourism can trigger major economic social and environmental benefits; Tourism vital to lacking global economic challenges.”

The activities of the day include special talks on tourism and environment trekking, spot painting for children, film show, musical entertainment, cultural programme, games, cafeteria, distribution of tourist literature, cycle safari, Moto cycle safari, free health check-up, tree plantation etc.

The function was attended by Guru G Gourakishore Sharma, Padmashri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee and director of Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Irilbung; Kshetrimayum Janma Singh, president of MAASI; Golem Kachungna, Zilla Parishad, Bamon Kampu; Mutum Romeshchandra, pradhan of Keirao Gram Panchayat; Thokchom Bhubon Singh, pradhan of Bamon Kampu Gram Panchayat; and Naoroibam Anita Devi, pradhan of Uchekon Nongpok Gram Panchayat as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
