TKWO celebrates golden jubilee

IMPHAL, October 7: The two day Golden Jubilee celebration of Thangmeiband Kabui Women’s Organization (TKWO), Namthanlong begins today. 

The inauguration function was attended was Home Minster Gaikhangam and MLA of Thangmeiband A/C, Kh Joykishan as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. The function was also attended by Gonglin Faumei, commandant, 2nd Bn Manipur Rifles, L Poushong, Namthanlong village Khunbu and founder of TKWN, Alulaona Kamson, president of Thangmeiband Kabui Women’s Organization as presidium members.

Addressing the function Ghaikhangam emphasized on the need of women to take part in more activities to become a prosperous society. 

“The development of a society can be measured by seeing the role played by women in that society,” he said.

“To bring development let us encourage our women to take part in more and more activities. We need to bring awareness to women of our state about the role that needs to be played by them. Let us men stop looking down at women, instead let us treat them with love and care and appreciate their roles in a society,” he said.     

He further wished the Thangmeiband Kabui Women’s Organization, Namthanlong for a prosperous future and to be able to continue serving the people.  

Joykishan, MLA of Thangmeiband A/C, promised to complete the undergoing work of the community hall of Namthanlong before December to meet with Gan-ngai festival.

The souvenir was released by HM Gaikhangam and the Golden Jubilee monument of TKWO was unveiled by MLA Joykishan.

One minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls of the TKWO founders and members at the function.

The later part of the programme saw youths performing cultural songs and dance numbers.
