IMPHAL, October 17: Education Minister M Okendro today launched the “one month long Barrier Free Poster Campaigns” at his office chamber at New Secretariat Complex. The poster campaign is organized by Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation, Manipur.
Speaking at the function, Education Minister M Okendro, who also holds the portfolio of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, said that his departments will render every kind of help possible to physically handicapped people of the state.
He further said that rice and other PDS items will be distributed at a very cheap rate to physically handicapped persons under additional quota.
A memorandum with six points was submitted to Minister drawing his attention on the main objectives of organizing the campaign by the HD Foundation during the function.
On which, the Minister responded positively and said that he will fulfil five demands out of six.
According to the memorandum, the main objectives of this campaign is ; to promote handicapped friendly environment in all the institutions, both government and privates by putting accessible class-room, toilets, campus and library with some assistive devices like Braille symbols, Braille text books, auditory sound system, ramp, wheel-chair users must be accessible in the classroom, library and toilet; to create separate handicapped friendly counter in all the institutes, both Govt and private, for enabling to make any payment or registration very easily and comfortably by the students with disability; to reserve 3 percent for the admission and hostel in both govt and private institutes for the students with disability; to make free admission, registration and other fee .in all the institutes both govt and private for physically handicapped students upto higher studies; to create all the passenger vehicles must be accessible for all the category of persons with disability; to create about the persons with disability in the syllabus of Board Of Secondary of Manipur.
