IMPHAL, October 19: Leaders of opposition political parties with take up the issues of Rs 224 crore Loktak scam, OBC scam in assembly and the case of missing wages in Social Welfare with the state Governor tomorrow.
Briefing media persons today afternoon at 1.30 pm at the Manipur Press Club leaders of seven political parties said, opposition representatives would meet the state Governor Gurbachan Jagat tomorrow at 12.30 pm and submit a memorandum.
A host of opposition leaders including State Secretary CPI Dr M Nara and former MLA N Mangi of CPI, MPP President S Umananda, Trinamool Congress Spokesperson RK Shivachandra, Janata Dal (United) President M Tombi and CPI (M) State Secretary Sarat Salam was present at the press conference.
The all party delegation to the state Governor excluding the Congress is likely to include State Secretary CPI Dr M Nara, MPP President S Umananda, state BJP President Sh Shantikumar Sharma, Trinamool Congress Spokesperson RK Shivachandra, Janata Dal (United) President M Tombi JD (S) President Manihar Goshwami, and CPI (M) State Secretary Sarat Salam.
It may be recalled here that, the opposition parties had been discussing the various scandals and issues for the last three days.
Terming the appointment of the Speaker Thokchom Lokeshore’s wife as Under Secretary in the Assembly secretariat on the basis of OBC certificate as misuse of power the political leaders asked the Chief Minister to institute a House Committee to inquire into the case.
Commenting on the biggest ever scam of Manipur the leaders said, awarding of Rs 224 crore project to a new and little known firm like K-Pro Infra Private Ltd which was the lone firm applying in the tender bid and making an advance of mobilisation expenses free of interest to the said company is nothing but corruption and favouritism by the Loktak Development Authority (LDA) of which Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh is the Chairman.
Saying that the opposition will not remain a silent spectator to these cases of corruption and misappropriation the leaders said, they will take up these issues with their central leaders so as to make it an issue at the winter session of the parliament.
An all party delegation is likely to visit New Delhi very soon.
The opposition meeting also discussed at length the negotiations between the government of India and the NSCN (IM) and recent developments in this regard.
Opposition leaders urged the state Chief Minister to convene an all political party meeting in this regard before taking a definitive decision on the demands of the NSCN (IM) and the pressure of the government of India.
The leaders said, a Cabinet sub-committee would not be able to decision on behalf of the people of Manipur.
The opposition leaders further asked the state Chief Minister to spell out the proposals made by the Centre in this regard.
