IMPHAL, October 20: Metal lovers and rockers in the state are in for a treat tomorrow evening with legendary metal group Phynyx taking to the stage once after a gap of nearly a decade and half.
The icing on the metal cake is Keith Vegas, versatile guitarist of Mumbai and Shillong’s own band Soulmate which will be opening the historic concert.
Commenting on their comeback, Phynyx lead guitarist Vivek Sharma told IFP, “Music, and particularly, rock music is our heart and soul, but faced with the harsher realities of life we had to necessarily take a forced hiatus.”
Rock as a source of livelihood is very difficult in the country and especially in Manipur, he explained. “But we are back again to rock the country,” he added.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Manipur Press Club premises today, Phynyx frontman Len Gangte said that there is an preconceived mindset among youngsters that drugs are part of the rock scenario which is not the reality. “Our concert is not only about music but, we are also propagating a drug free rock scenario. Phynyx has always maintained a clean image and want others to follow suit. An AIDS awareness program is part of the gig also,” he said.
The band members promised that the show will be one to behold and fans will not be left wanting.
“We are looking forward to a kickass gig, the Manipuri audience specially the students have supported us, we always have an overwhelming response here,” Tipriti, Soulmate vocalist said. Rudy Wallang, band guitarist also stated, “ Its Deja-Vu all over again, it has been quite some time that we played with Phynyx and Keith Wallang. It will be nice to play together”.
The show is slated to start from 5 pm and is managed by Riverboat Event Management.
